The Government approved this Tuesday a first package of measures to mitigate the economic effects of the epidemic of coronavirus COVID-19, both in the Council of Ministers and in a specific inter-ministerial meeting.
Economic measures
In order to prevent the spread of the disease and maintain social protection for self-employed or employed workers, it is established that periods of isolation or contagion of workers as a consequence of the COVID-19 virus will be considered an assimilated situation. a work accident for the purposes of the economic benefit for temporary disability of the Social Security system.
Thus, the Executive has decided to change criteria since until now they were temporarily disabled due to common contingencies, which means that now it will be the Administration who takes over 75% of its regulatory base from the day following sick leave.
In turn, the Government is finalizing a moratorium on Social Security contributions corresponding to three consecutive monthly payments for companies and self-employed workers in the geographical areas and sectors that the Government considers necessary to support.
Work from home (or telecommuting)
In order to be able to continue with the activity of the company normally, as far as possible, there is the option of agreeing with the worker to work from home and to occasionally go to perform their duties at the workplace, only if necessary. The need to clarify and specify in detail the tasks to be carried out and the organizational modifications of the work, make the formalization of the agreement a necessary issue for both parties.
It is foreseen that in the next few days, measures of greater depth and precision will be adopted, of which we will duly inform.
